shorts

I haven't heard back from many of you on short sizes. Anna is between and XS and S, and I am leaning toward small. If I do not hear from you, I will pick the size. If you have already sent me the size then we are good.

Maddie's Party

Thanks to the Charests for having us over to their house for the summer party. The food was great as was the pool and the company.

Hopefully they will have us back again later this summer.

Uniforms

This weekend I had a few of the girls try on the uniforms and the shorts are definitely too big. Plan B is to substitute a cheap Umbro white short temporarily until we can bulk the girls up enough to fit shorts. The human growth hormone should be here shortly. If it is okay with everyone we will just save the other shorts for spring hopefully. I haven't added everything up, but the original kit is in the $52 range and the new shorts should only be another $5 or so. If ANYBODY has objections, let me know and we will work something out.

The shorts we are going to use are the same shorts that most of the girls are wearing now, the checkerboard Umbros, only in white. Since most of you have these style of shorts already at home, please have the girls try them on again and let me know what size they need in the white for the Fall. I will purchase the shorts in one lot. If you do not have these shorts currently, you can go to Dick's sporting goods and have them try a pair on. For reference, Anna will be wearing an XS. The sizes are XXS, XS, S, M, etc... I would imagine that most if not not all the girls will be wearing XS or S.

Please respond with the sizes as soon as possible so that I can pick them up. Thanks.

Pics of the Uniforms

Well, here are the pics of the uni's. As you can see the shorts are a bit large, even larger than I thought. Anna is kind of middle of the road in size, so I am afraid these shorts will swallow the smaller girls. I am not sure what to do at this point, but anyways here they are.....

Party with Maddy

I hope everyone got their invitation to party with Maddy at her house next weekend (not this weekend). If you did not, shoot Mel and email and she can give you the details. I am going to email some homework for the girls to start learning about the new fields.

We may also practice for thirty minutes or so before swimming at maddy's. No running around, etc... so no cleats needed or full soccer gear, I would just like to work on throw ins. I encourage parents to participate so they can see what we are doing and work on this stuff at home with the girls. While we may not be able to practice as much as a select team, I think there are things the girls can do at home that will effectively increase their practice time.

Team Uniforms

The team uniforms are in and they look cool, however, I have to explain a bit. In order to get purple I had to make some concessions. Originally I was going to have to go with white jerseys, purple shorts and purple socks. They (Xara) determined that they did not have enough white jerseys, so I had to go with the purple jersey, white short, purple sock combo. The problem with that was that the only white shorts they had were YM. Now we all saw the other shorts that we tried on and I even brought more home to try on Anna and did the best I could with sizing.

I had Anna try on the shorts that we got and they are not too big but they are definitely not small. The waste is perfect. I will dress Anna up in hers and take a picture so everyone can see. I personally like the baggy short look in soccer, but I am not sure if everyone shares my feelings. I hope it works out.

Stickers

We now have Mermaids Soccer Stickers for cars, etc... A few parents have them, but next time I see you, ask me for some stickers. I would like to see Mermaid soccer stickers all over the metroplex! Give them to family, friends, enemies, everyone.

Here is what they look like (not exactly, for some reason when I upload them they change colors). The lettering is purple, the girl's skin is not green and her hair is blonde.

Anyway, hit me up for some of them.

Trophies

This is a picture of the trophies we are proposing getting this year for the girls. They can be done in purple, custom engraved and are way nicer than the ones LHSA gives us. If anyone is opposed to this or has other ideas, post a comment or shoot me an email.

Big Cheers for the Mighty Mermaids!!

Well, we successfully defended out LHSA 3 v 3 Tournament Championship! Congrats to Allie, Maddie, Anna, Sloan, Taylor and Jacqueline for their stellar performance. We played two play in games and two playoff games as the number 1 seed.

We won the first two 4-2 and 9-3 and won our playoff games 2-1 and 4-0 for the final game against the Zebras! The girls definitely saved their best for last. With tired legs and bodies they really stuck it out and played one of their best games to date. The Zebras had maybe three shots all game and rarely came over the center line.

I cannot tell you how proud I am of the Mermaids, tourney girls and all those that did not play. I have seen such improvement in every girl. It makes it all worthwhile as a coach.

FYI, the "Mighty Mermaids" was not something I came up with....that is what the Zebras were calling us!

This can be done via upload directly to the gallery or via email. Click on the icons at the top of the page to see what they do. You can also download any photos that you like.

At the bottom of the page you can adjust how you look at the photos. They can be viewed in a grid, mosaic or whatever works best for you.

I'm so confused....

I cannot keep all the combinations straight that people like. So how else to solve this than with a poll!

I am making this as democratic as possible, but unless anyone totally objects to uni's period, I will make the final decision. I know you wouldn't want it any other way!

Other option on uniforms

Lisa saw the uniforms and did not appear to enthused, so I thought I'd put another style on here as well.

Also know that if we get away from purple we can pretty much get any brand we like (adidas, etc...) for basically the same price. With purple however, the choices are much more limited. I kind of like the purple however.

Another option is the black short like we have now, but I am not a big fan of the black short.

The masses have spoken....

It looks like Mermaids it is... Perhaps a small change like Dan suggested like FC Mermaids or Mermaids FC.

On the uniform issue, it looks like majority says yes. Even if they didn't, we do not have much of a choice as the jerseys we have now are no longer available.

I guess the only other issue is the color. I thought red would be cool, but as Ken pointed out, there will be a lot of red teams as we keep going. However, there do not appear to be many purple teams.

This is a jersey and socks by xara soccer. I think it looks pretty cool. With purple shorts I think this would look awesome.

I have researched kits and think I can put one together for around $50. If anyone absolutely cannot do this then e-mail me and let me know.

Also, if you know your daughter will be on the team in the fall, we can start the process of getting the new uni's while this season is still going. This will help in getting sizing, etc... Soccer City will let me bring samples to a practice so we can get sizing just right.

Soccer Practice

Great game by the girls today, they are really looking good. We will practice Tuesday but there will be no group practice Thursday.

Change of Team Name

I have heard a lot of opinions on the change of team name, but the votes don't reflect it. If you do not vote, you do not count. I know that there are those out there that back the change of the name yet I have not seen any comments. What gives? Scared to stir things up? Come on, it is fun, stir away.

The First Ever Mermaids Blog

A temporary place where everyone can complain about the mean coach and assorted other business.

I wanted a place where people could comment on items to do with the team that is a bit more organized than me just asking questions and then forgetting the answers.

Item 1: For the new season (and new field and new referees, etc...) I was thinking of changing the name of the team.

Item 2: Change of the team uniform.

There is a poll to the side for everyone to fill out and any comments on the subject of changing the name or not changing the name and possible new names are gladly accepted. Same with ideas on uniforms.

The going idea on the uniforms is white jerseys/red shorts/red numbers and either white socks with red accents or red socks with white accents.

We can add emblems to the jersey as well. Any emblem we choose we thought we would incorporate a mermaid.

Any comments on these issues or anything else are appreciated.
